Introducing MixLux

Today, I am excited to announce that EventSmith Entertainment has become MixLux!

MixLux brings people together by curating the energy of spaces through music and light to create one-of-a-kind moments and lasting core memories for life’s milestone moments. MixLux aims to create environments where music lovers can celebrate with their people and feel like the rockstars they are.

MixLux is rooted in these core values:

Creativity: Our clients share the belief that creativity is important and should be valued in a world that often seeks to minimize it.

Elegance: A party can be both rager and elegant; our experience guides us to the sweet spot.

Passion:  Our best can only be achieved when we all care about the work to create it. If we lose passion, we lose our ability to create our best.

Past, Present & Future.

EventSmith Entertainment was born as EventSmith Boston in 2017. I started this company to provide event DJ services, mainly for weddings and social events. I was unhappy with the general stereotype of a wedding DJ and wanted to ensure I could forge my own way.

I have always worked hard to learn more, attend conferences, network with those who inspire me, and do anything else that I could to advance myself professionally and personally. In the past two years, I have doubled down and invested greatly in developing processes and expanding my creative vision.

Instead of creating a company with multiple DJs, I realized that I needed to focus on specializing in my skill sets of music curation and lighting design. Creativity is important, and I want that to be the focus of my business. To do that, I feel that a boutique focus is the way.

Creating the right atmosphere involves multiple elements. I know that in the past my best events were those where the music hit just right; that we could create a vibe that was welcoming and inviting, elegant and impressive, but also bold and dynamic when the time was right.

I know that when I work with those who respect art, music, design, and most of all, a great party, I can do my best work, and I only ever wish to provide my best.

What’s in A Name: 2 Words. Double Meaning.

Mix symbolizes the act of a DJ mixing music and the blend of music, DJ’ing, and lighting into one experience.

Lux symbolizes lighting as it is a scientific unit of measurement defining the brightness of light and is also a nod to an elevated luxury service.

What Does MixLux Offer?

My services through MixLux are not drastically changing but are more focused, with an emphasis on the ability to do lighting-only events.

DJ

Weddings: Weddings will continue to be the core of the business. We’ll still offer production for the ceremony, cocktail hour, reception, and dancing. Lighting will be included unless an outside professional lighting company has been hired.

Social: Social events that MixLux will be involved in may or may not have a dancing element but will still have a strong emphasis on vibe through music. Lighting will be designed to reflect the client’s vision (i.e. more atmospheric for events where there won’t be a dance floor).

Afterparty: This will be an all-inclusive light and music offering. The goal is to provide an energetic experience after events with live music. Often, these events require flipping a room, so this service will be designed to transform the space while also being able to load in and set up in short windows.

Lighting

The lighting division will focus on providing low-profile, high-impact designs, whether incorporated into the DJ side or as a standalone offering. The goal is smaller footprints. In most cases, I want people to notice the light and not large lighting structures. 85% of our lighting is fully wireless.

Elements: Below are the general styles of light that we will use. Not every event will use all of these.

  • Wash Lighting: The base of all designs will be used as both up and down lights.

  • Highlighting: Using pin spots, we’ll highlight decor and focal points

  • Breakup: Using gobos to project patterns that create texture and depth

  • Tube Lights: Primarily to add dynamics and visual effects

  • Moving Head Lights: While standard in the industry, this style of light is used sparingly or for larger-scale or heavily music-focused events.

Thank You.

At the end of the day, your DJ is still me, Brian Smith. This is a small business with a small and trusted team that believes in being hands-on. I am excited about this next chapter and have more plans to come. I appreciate everyone's support over the years, from friends, family, past clients, and industry friends.
